This exceptional apartment is
located in the very heart of el
Born neighborhood
is one of the noble zones but of historical Barcelona, the best and
safe area in the old town. Near to Picasso Museum.
Next to gorgeous Santa Maria del Mar, a 14th-century
Gothic Basilica , the area I've called home for nine years now.
The building is
an icon of the city, photographed and published many times for tourist
publicity.
Is an ancient palace recently restored, declared as a protected heritage
property of Barcelona.
Its got a valious original stone staircase, a new secondary one, accesible
flat roof, and a modern lift.
This is the most up-and-coming area in Barcelona's old town, with
dozen's of terraced cafés, restaurants, tapas bars, art galleries (this
apartment is directly above one), museums, artesan quarter, design shops,
etc. Until about 15 years ago, this lovely old quarter, with it's late
14th to mid-18th-century buildings, was a fairly poor working class
neighborhood, and a lot of these poorer neighbors, are still around.
Then, in the mid-80's, some young professionals and artists started
moving in, and the first trendy bars and galleries opened up.
Gentrification of the area was unstoppable. New neighbors, including many
foreigners, were attracted to the neighborhood-feel of the quarter, the
proximity to beaches, the Ciutadella park, the Ramblas, the
Cathedral, the food markets, etc |
